- Q: What is the National Compact?
- A: The Compact is a high-level, aspiration-based agreement setting out how the Australian Government and not-for-profit sector want to work together to improve the lives of Australians.

- Q: What is a National Compact Partner?
- A: A Compact Partner is a not-for-profit organisation that has voluntarily agreed to sign up to the National Compact to show their support for the Compact’s shared vision, purpose and principles.
- Q: Who can become a National Compact Partner?
- A: Any not-for-profit organisation that wishes to sign up to the Compact.
- Q: How do I become a National Compact Partner?
- A: Sign up is done on the National Compact website by selecting the ‘sign up now’ button on the homepage or by visiting the Partner Sign up page.
- Q: What does it cost to become a National Compact Partner?
- A: Becoming a Compact Partner is free of charge and voluntary.
- Q: What benefits do I get from signing up?
- A: Compact Partners receive a number of tangible and intangible benefits. Compact Partners receive a certificate to acknowledge their commitment to the National Compact and are entitled to have their organisation’s name and logo published on the website along with a direct link to their organisation’s website if they wish. In addition, they are able to advertise details of their upcoming events on the National Compact event calendar by emailing the event details through to nationalcompact@pmc.gov.au at least two weeks in advance. The events calendar is reserved for Compact Partners only.
- Members also benefit from knowing that they are increasing the number of not-for-profit organisations who support an important agreement that outlines the Government and the sector’s commitment to working together to improve the lives of Australians.
- Q: Can I get funding from the National Compact?
- A: No. The National Compact does not provide funding to not-for-profit organisations. Information on available funding can be found on our Grants page
- Q: What is a Compact Champion?
- A: Compact Champions are change agents and leaders in their fields. They come from all levels of government, business and across the sector. Through their experiences and interests they share a common desire to improve the wellbeing of Australians. They are also committed to promoting the potential of the National Compact to change the way we work together.

Q: Which Government agencies are committed to the National Compact?
A: All Government portfolios are committed to the Compact's shared vision, purpose and principles. For a list of Government departments please visit our Government page.
Q: What is Government doing to implement and strengthen the National Compact?
A: Commonwealth departments have nominated a Deputy Secretary to fulfil the role of Compact advocate. The advocate will have responsibility for supporting their agency’s contribution to, and adoption of new processes to reduce red tape, streamline reporting requirements and implement priority actions under the National Compact and the Government’s reform agenda.
An Interdepartmental Committee has also been established to provide a whole-of-government approach to imlementing the National Compact.
- Q: Who is helping to advise the Government on not-for-profit reform?
- A: The Office for the Not-For-Profit Sector has been set up within the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet to coordinate and drive the not-for-profit reform agenda. The Not-For-Profit Sector Reform Council has also been established to advise on the scope of regulatory reform, reducing red tape, streamlining tendering and contracting processes for Government-funded not-for-profits, harmonisation of Australian, State and Territory laws on fundraising, and the implementation of the National Compact.
